Here’s a useful tool that combines a number of validation services into one tool: “Total Validator”:www.totalvalidator.com is available as an online service, a desktop tool and a Firefox extension (you can get all from their web site).
Not only does the tool validate your site according to W3C specs but it also:
* Checks for accessibility
* Checks for broken links
* Checks spelling
* Takes screenshots of your how your pages display in different browsers
* Validates the construction of your page (not so sure about this one)
More features are planned, including CSS validation, but it is already a very complete package for a single tool. Well worth having.

I included a pretty comprehensive list of “useful Firefox extensions”:www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000236.php in a previous post.
I would also recommend using Xenu’s Link Sleuth. While it doesnt check spelling or browser compatibility, it does print an extensive report and build a sitemap while checking for broken links. Also, supports SSL which comes in handy in lead generation microsites online. The sitemap build feature in particular comes in handy when evaluating new sites. I’ve been using it for around a year and have found it useful
