Keith has done a nice redesign of Asterisk, making it more readable while still maintaining a nice design aesthetic.
A comment I made about missing the old version despite liking the new version brought it home to me that when something is gone on the web, it really is gone for good.
Unlike with traditional media, where you can find an out-of-print version of just about anything if you are tenacious enough, if one day you come back to a web site and it’s changed–all you have left are the memories.
I took a quick look around the web for anything on this subject, and apart from the Wayback Machine from the Internet Archive, there is precious little to be found about the lack of preservation of web history and what the possible consequences of this might be.
Talk about living in the present.
