Keith posted a “timely entry”:http://www.7nights.com/asterisk/archives05/2005/09/standards-geeks-hard-to-come-by a few days ago bemoaning the lack of designers/developers proficient in CSS-based web design.
This was a timely opportunity for me to plug the “opening in my web team for a web developer”:https://smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000159.php – this position is still open, by the way.

Design In-Flight Now Available Online
Great to see that “design in-flight”:http://www.designinflight.com/ is now available as an online magazine.
I enjoyed the PDF versions but it will be much more useful as an online magazine, if only for the ability to discuss articles. Should be a nice complement to A List Apart.
Test Your Web Site For Speed, Accessibility and More For Free
I recently took advantage of the free web site testing service offered by “Independent Testers”:http://www.independent-testers.org/. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first but was quite impressed with their report.
Create Online Graphs With Flash
One of our sites has a page of medical treatment statistics. I was never that enthused about how it looked visually – a bunch of tables doesn’t exactly grab your attention – and so I decided to see what I could do in the way of adding some graphs to make the data easier to grasp. Read More
Top Children’s Hospitals: Are Their Home Pages in the Same League?
Every couple of years CHILD Magazine surveys the nation’s children’ hospitals and ranks the top 25. Well, actually they rank the top 10 and then have 15 runners up, but since Seattle Children’s (where I work) came in at #13 this year, I’m going to say they rank the top 25 – any problem with that?
I thought it would be interesting to see whether the home pages (and by implication, the websites) of these esteemed pediatric medical establishments were of a similar caliber in terms of the validity of their code.

According to Hitwise, the Advocate Health System web site was the sixth most visited hospital web site in November 2004. With such large and popular site, you’d think they’d have a lot to talk about every month – apparently not. Read More
Sneak Peak: Asterisk Redesign
Today I mentioned to Keith that I was thinking about redesigning my site (after all, it’s only been up like this for 3½ years), and he responded that he had already started on his redesign of Asterisk.
Trusting person that he is, he sent me the link to look at an early version of it, and lousy friend that I am, I immediately posted the link on my site for the whole ‘world’ (well, about 50 of you) to see (actually, he said it was okay).
JavaScript Centered Pop-Up Window Script
I know pop-up windows are generally considered to be a bad thing; however, this script has served me well over the years and so I thought I’d share it. Read More
Our Movable Type Intranet is Live
A long time ago, Keith Robinson posted about the intranet redesign project our web team was undertaking (first post, second post, third post).
Due to various factors outside of our control, the project has taken much longer than we originally envisaged (11 months as opposed to about 4), and Keith moved on to pastures new before he was able to see our project through to completion.
Wanted: CSS Expert to Work Temporary Contract On-site
Now that Keith has left our hospital web team we’re looking for a web designer to temporarily fill the void.
